Drop In Season 3 - episode 9

Jan 25, 2007 07:49 pm
Length: 11:43

Episode 9 In Search Of Sunshine<p>
We spent as long as we could in Prince George and there was a lot we could have stayed to do still but it started raining again... Hard, and after a 'team meeting', we unanimously decided that we couldn't wait out more rain when we knew what lay ahead south on hwy 97... Williams Lake.
We trekked out of Prince George within hours of that meeting as if the rain was poison. Tyler & Dylan filled Steve and Ryan in on their past experiences riding and filming in Williams Lake and the energy that seemed to be low on the bus during our time up North was re-building in the bus as we traveled through the night in hopes of sunshine we awoke the next day in Williams Lake. Cam hopped on a plane to go to Germany for the "Ride To The Lake" contest so we were a man down until he would meet up with the bus again down the road. Luckily Tyler got his wing back so we gained him back who we missed on the trails since Terrace. Ambrose Weingart from Pist-n-Broke met us there to join the tour and become a Drop In Dirtbag for the remainder of the tour. He seemed apprehensive at first as the bus was waterlogged and it looked like a bomb went off in there but he succumbed to the dirtbag way and looked past it all and down the road to what was to become an epic 3 more weeks. We warmed up in W.L. with a couple trails but when the sun popped out the focus was on the big stuff. Mike Kinrade strolled up to the bus the next day too and it was on! A huge step down gap, giant wall ride, and an amazing hip jump are the highlights from Tyler, Mike, Steve, and Ryan. Tremblay fans will enjoy watching him ride the streets and how he makes his way down trails as fun as you find in Williams Lake - with his own style. With a scene as strong as they have in "The Puddle" the trails are usually mint and advocacy starts with the youth and extends to locals in their 50's. But with the MD threatening to tear the trails apart and block further access to the major zones the trails hadn't been maintained all summer and we found ourselves with little to 'poach' for your enjoyment. Red Shred's is the shop in town and they were a big help when we showed up with rusted up bikes, and building up Dylan's Block 8 frame to replace the one I ran over with the truck. Shop owner Mark "Shreddy" was working on the ongoing trail battle and we had to follow him home to hang out with him because of the steady stream of locals coming in and phoning him to offer their support. He's not the ringleader but he's the most qualified around to act as the hub of the mountain bike scene / phenomenon in W.L. Before the episode is over, still buzzing on adrenaline from the first day of sun and going big in a while we keep the stoke going by driving further south to Kamloops. The next week was dubbed "Air Miles An Bigger Smiles" by Tyler... But that's next episode...
