SURFLINE PREDICTS SIZEABLE SWELL FOR START OF OAKLEY WORLD PRO JUNIOR HOLDING PERIOD MON., OCT. 3 IN BALI, INDONESIA

KERAMAS, Bali/Indonesia (Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011) – According to official forecaster Surfline, a sizeable swell is lining up for the opening day of the holding period for the Oakley World Pro Junior on Monday, Oct. 3, and continuing throughout the contest waiting period which ends Oct. 14. The event, the first of three on the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Junior Championship Tour, will be held at Keramas in Bali, Indonesia with a backup location at Canggu as needed.

BRIEF OVERVIEW: Thanks to a very active Indian Ocean, there is plenty of southerly swell on the way for much of the contest waiting period. Medium size swell for the first couple days of the waiting period (Mon/Tue) will give way to building and larger swell by Wednesday and Thursday of next week. The Hunt 08′ Hurricane Gustav “Timing” by O’neill and Freestyle

Hurricane Gustav was an extremely devastating storm. As it plowed over Cuba and moved into the Gulf, it became apparent that Gustav wasn’t going to hit the East Coast of Florida. So, new plans were made, and when Cory Lopez flew into to Tallahassee from California, Alek Parker, Peter Mendia and Shea Lopez started the 8 to 10 hour drive to Panama City, Florida from Shea’s house.
Gustav was all about timing. Like most of these Hurricanes there is a very short window for surf and Gustav was no exception. Watching the swell fill in, to sleeping through the midnight peak of the swell, the crew still managed to get most of what this storm produced. Big outside A Frames in the Gulf to small but fun glass, Gustav delivered a variety pack of waves, and the crew made the most of it…
