MGT “2BuckChuck” Slopestyle Contest!

POSTED: Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

MGT’s 2BuckChuck Slopestyle Contest

Grouse Mountain, BC
Jan. 6, 2007

If I could choose one word to describe Sunday’s all-girl slopestyle jam, it would be “insane”. Not for what the girls were throwing down (although that was pretty sick too) but for the fact that they were doing so in fog thicker than 6-week-old milk. See example:
foggy rail shot at MGT 2Buck2Chuck Contest
The girls had two hours to show off in the park, while Leanne Pelosi, Molly Milligan and a host of other names judged, taking note of stand-out performances. At one point the fog got so bad the course was closed for twenty minutes - you couldn’t see the first rail from the top of the park. The contest resumed when Pelosi came up with the plan to get all the spectators, judges, etc. to stand along the first rail so the girls could see the path. Not ideal, but it worked!

Despite the pea-soup fog, the snow was falling and the girls weren’t afraid to huck themselves, knowing they would have a soft landing. The competition was so tight, judges announced the top five instead of just three.

1. Breanna Stangeland
2. Cladia Avon
3. Raewyn Reid
4. Brooke Voight
5. Karen Burt

For her win, Breanna got a fat $1000 cheque, plus an all-expenses paid trip to the Burton Abominable Snowjam! Claudia scored $500 and a trip to the Billabong Flaunt It tour in Quebec. Not bad, MGT! Breanna also took home best trick for her backlip pretzel-out which snagged her another $150. Not bad for a 14-year-old!

Stay tuned for Rip’s video coverage of the event, with rider and pro interviews, as well as (foggy) contest footage!
